Whether this is your first time seeing a fertility specialist or you are coming to our clinic with past fertility experiences, we are here to ensure that you have the best opportunity to build your family at Boca Fertility.

What to expect at your first fertility appointment

Your first fertility appointment marks the beginning of a journey toward understanding your reproductive health and exploring potential paths to parenthood. Here’s a concise overview of what you can expect during your first visit.

Check-in at Clinic

When you arrive at our clinic, you will be greeted by a friendly member of the Boca Fertility team. Enjoy refreshments and comfortable seating in our patient lounge, and one of our patient experience specialists will escort you to a private exam room when it is time to begin your consultation.

Health History & Vitals

Your appointment will begin with a comprehensive overview of your medical history, lifestyle, and any existing health conditions, as well as completing your vitals. This information helps our fertility specialists gain insights into possible factors affecting your fertility.

Initial Consultation

Next, you will meet with our fertility specialists to discuss your fertility journey. Prepare to discuss your family planning goals, previous attempts to conceive, menstrual history, and any relevant emotional concerns. The more transparent you are, the more accurate your diagnosis and treatment plan will be.

Fertility Testing Recommendations

Depending on your situation, your specialist may recommend various diagnostic tests. These could include blood work to assess hormone levels, ultrasounds to visualize your reproductive organs, and potentially a semen analysis for male partners.

Fertility Treatment Recommendations

Your fertility specialist will explain the potential causes of any fertility challenges and discuss the treatment options that will be most appropriate for your situation. This may include lifestyle changes, fertility medications, assisted reproductive technologies like IUI and IVF, and other personalized treatments.

Payment Plans & Pricing

Once the recommended tests and treatment plans have been shared, you will discuss logistics with one of our fertility coaches, including pricing, payment plans, and financing options. Feel free to ask questions about your diagnosis, treatment options, potential outcomes, and any worries you might have. Open communication is key to ensuring a successful fertility journey.

Nurse Instructions

You will then meet with an experienced member of our nursing staff to receive instructions for the recommended next steps of your personalized fertility treatment plan. This may include instructions for timed intercourse, ovulation-inducing medications, additional testing, or other procedures.

Set Your Next Appointment

Before leaving the appointment, you will receive information about scheduling follow-up tests, treatments, or procedures, as well as any preparatory steps you need to take. Our patient experience specialists will assist you in setting up your next appointment and providing any other details that are important to your fertility care journey.

What to expect during fertility treatment

While each individual’s fertility journey is unique, you can expect to feel supported, cared for, and taken care of throughout your treatment at Boca Fertility. Whether you are undergoing procedures like IVF or IUI or are participating in egg freezing, donation or surrogacy, we are here for you every step of the way.

Personalized Recommendations

Our fertility specialists work with you throughout each phase of your fertility treatment plan to ensure that you are receiving personalized, evidence-based recommendations. If any adjustments are needed during treatment to give you the best chance at a successful outcome, your fertility specialist will communicate with you and discuss any decisions or next steps as necessary.

Patient Education

Throughout your journey, you will receive detailed information about your chosen treatment plan, important steps, and potential outcomes. This knowledge empowers you to make informed decisions about your reproductive health and feel confident about your personalized approach to building your family.

Fertility Procedures

Based on your personalized treatment plan, you may undergo procedures such as intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), or various surgical procedures. These procedures involve precise timing, especially for egg retrieval and embryo transfer, so it is important to maintain frequent communication with your fertility specialist to ensure the timeliness of your procedures.

Monitoring

Throughout your treatment, you will likely have regular appointments to monitor the effectiveness of your treatment protocol and/or procedures. These routine appointments may involve blood tests and ultrasounds to track your body’s response to medications and adjust your treatment plan as needed.

What to expect after fertility treatment

Completing fertility treatment marks a significant milestone in your journey toward parenthood. Here’s a brief overview of what to expect as you transition to the post-treatment phase:

Waiting Period

After fertility treatments such as intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in vitro fertilization (IVF), a waiting period ensues before taking a pregnancy test. Patience during this time is key, and we will be here to support you during this exciting, yet anticipatory time.

Pregnancy Testing

Following the designated waiting period, you’ll undergo a pregnancy test to determine whether the treatment was successful. This moment brings a mix of emotions, regardless of the result. It is important to remember that, while assisted reproductive technologies are rapidly advancing and becoming more and more effective daily, pregnancy is not always guaranteed. Whether your journey results in pregnancy or not, your fertility specialist will continue to provide guidance and explore further options if needed.

Positive Pregnancy

If the test is positive, congratulations! You’ll work with our fertility care team to monitor the progress of your pregnancy through ultrasounds and other prenatal care.

Negative Pregnancy

If the test is negative, you might experience disappointment and a range of emotions. Your healthcare team will guide you through the next steps, which could involve revisiting your treatment plan or exploring alternative options.

Support and Self-Care

The post-treatment phase can be emotionally complex. Feelings of joy, relief, anxiety, and uncertainty are all normal reactions. At Boca Fertility, our entire team of fertility specialists, nurses, coaches and patient experience staff are here to offer support, guidance and encouragement every step of the way.  Continue to lean on the support network you’ve built, whether it’s friends, family, or support groups. Self-care is essential during this time to manage stress and maintain emotional well-being.

Communication

Stay in close contact with your healthcare provider. Discuss your emotions, concerns, and any questions you might have about the post-treatment phase.

Exploring Options

Depending on the results, you might need to consider adjusting your treatment plan or exploring alternative paths to parenthood, such as adoption or surrogacy.

Moving Forward

Life after fertility treatment presents a mix of emotions and decisions. Regardless of the outcome, remember that you have choices and opportunities to build the family you desire. Embrace the support around you, communicate openly with your fertility care team, and allow yourself the time and space to process the experiences as you navigate the next steps in your journey.

Post-Graduation

Once you are part of the Boca Fertility family, you are family for life. Keep in touch with us, and share your stories, successes and challenges with us after you graduate from our clinic. Your success is our success, and we are always here to support you and your family.

Frequently asked questions about Boca Fertility

  • What is Boca Fertility?

Boca Fertility is a private medical practice dedicated to the specialty of reproductive endocrinology. A reproductive endocrinologist is the most highly trained infertility specialist, having completed intensive study in infertility, female hormonal problems, and reproductive surgery.

  • What type(s) of tests or treatments will I undergo?

This will depend on how much previous infertility testing you have undergone and the nature of your specific problem. If you have not yet had a basic infertility workup, some blood tests and diagnostic procedures will be recommended first in order to try to find the cause of your inability to conceive (or carry a pregnancy). Any testing you have already done will generally not be repeated. Your treatment plan will be developed by your fertility specialist based on your diagnosis and treatment history. It may include medication, surgery, artificial insemination, and/or in vitro fertilization.

  • Will you need my previous records?

Yes, these will be very important at the time of your initial visit. Please bring them with you or have them sent to us prior to the visit. Feel free to call us to make sure they have arrived. Please be sure that the records include (if applicable): the operative report, surgical videotape, and the tubal x-ray films (available from the hospital).

  • What are the clinic’s operating hours?

Appointments are scheduled from 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM. Certain types of visits do need to be scheduled at specific times of the day, however. Weekend appointments are available for procedures which require special timing. Our telephones are answered from 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM.

  • How long will I spend at each appointment?

You should expect to be in our office approximately 1-1.5 hours on your initial visit. Subsequent appointments will last 15-30 minutes, except for special procedures. We attempt to keep your waiting room time to a minimum. We do ask for your understanding if an unforeseen circumstance occasionally causes a delay.

  • How will my care be coordinated with my other doctors?

While you are undergoing treatment at Boca Fertility, you will continue to be a patient of your regular OB/GYN. You should schedule your annual PAP smear with him/her and contact his/her office for any gynecological problems not related to your infertility treatment. If you become pregnant, your fertility specialist will provide your early prenatal care, and then refer you back to your OB/GYN. If you are being treated by another doctor for an unrelated medical condition, please inform your fertility care team. Please also let the other doctor know that you are attempting pregnancy, and ask whether any medications he/she has prescribed for you are safe to take at this time. If your partner is undergoing medical treatment, he/she may wish to ask his/her doctor whether the medication prescribed to him/her will affect his fertility.

  • What types of payment are accepted?

We ask that payment be made at the time of service, and we accept checks, MasterCard, Visa, and Discover. If you plan to pay by cash, please note that we do not keep any cash in our office, and therefore cannot make change. (We can credit your account for the difference or mail you a check.) Boca Fertility is a participating provider in many PPO and HMO plans. If you are insured with a plan to which we belong, you will be responsible for your co-payment, deductible, and any non-covered services at the time of the visit.
